Mercedes driver George Russell expressed surprise at Max Verstappen apologizing for their F1 Spanish Grand Prix incident on social media. The clash occurred when Verstappen slowed down and then accelerated, making contact with Russell. Verstappen initially avoided addressing the incident but later admitted fault on Instagram. Russell, though surprised by Verstappen’s accountability, did not feel the need to discuss the incident further. Describing the incident as potentially deliberate, Russell believes Verstappen was attempting to assert dominance rather than cause a crash. Verstappen’s 10-second penalty in Spain puts him at risk of a race ban pending his behavior in upcoming races. Russell light-heartedly suggested that Verstappen might intentionally earn a penalty point for a weekend off at home.
